Crypton Fabric Welcomes William Wegman to Detroit

Crypton Fabric, in conjunction with the Cranbrook Art Museum, is proud to sponsor a unique glimpse into the wild world of photographer William Wegman, filled with Weimaraners and wonder.

“We are thrilled to welcome William Wegman to Cranbrook to speak about his life and career,” said Crypton Chairwoman Randy Rubin. “Wegman’s body of work is held in high regard in the community of modern art. To have such an esteemed artist speak with us is truly an honor. His work has inspired our pet collection and it’s exciting that he will be inspiring the young minds of the Cranbrook Academy of Art.”

On February 9, William Wegman will deliver a lecture at the Cranbrook Art Museum. This special event titled “An Afternoon with William Wegman,” will provide the artist with an opportunity to discuss his career, as well as his newest body of work. The following day, Wegman will visit the Brookside School and teach the students there how to illustrate using his technique and talk about his popular children’s book, Flo and Wendell.

William Wegman is best known for his photography of dogs. And before you assume he takes your run-of-the-mill, dog rolling on your living room floor photos, you should know that Wegman’s photos are world-class. His photographs of dogs hang in some of the world’s major museums: the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.  You might even recognize one of Wegman’s most famous dogs: Fay Ray (named for the actress), who starred on Sesame Street from 1987 to 1995, in a series of shorts about counting made by Wegman.

Bring Wegman’s Art Home

William Wegman shows his love for dogs by putting them in his art. At Crypton Fabrics, we show our love for dogs by giving them art – in the form of a beautiful, functional dog bed. Crypton pet beds not only look and feel like a great place to sleep, but they are uniquely resistant to pesky stains and bacteria. Inspired by Wegman’s fun and sprightly style of photography, Crypton has created a line of pet beds, throvers, aprons, totes and other accessories that ring true to Wegman’s signature whimsical style. Available online, the William Wegman Line is perfect for pets and pet lovers alike.
