Win a Crypton Throver and Matching Pillow! <This giveaway is now closed.>

Our favorite Life on Crypton contributor, Julia Szabo has a guest post up on Coochicoos, one of our favorite sites for kids’ design. Coochicoos covers a fantastic range of topics for design-minded parents – everything from the most stylish toys to home decorating tips and advice.

Julia has tackled a tough topic for any family in a small space: how to lay out a play area for tots without letting it take over the house. One of her suggestions for keeping those well-designed spots free of kid messes is—you guessed it—our Crypton Throver. If your little one wants to bring lunch onto the couch, this Throver will really give you the peace of mind you need – just wipe up spills with no problem!

Check out  Julia’s full post: “5 Tips for Creating a Child-Friendly (and Stylish!) Playspace.”

In honor of the extra-special attention from Coochicoos, we are celebrating with a giveaway. Could your bambinos use a little Crypton protection? We are going to send one lucky Life on Crypton reader our favorite Throver and matching pillow.

For a chance to win, simply leave a comment on this blog post, sharing YOUR best tip for keeping life clean and stylish with kids in the house. We’ll choose one person at random on September 1, 2010 to receive the gift.

This is a perfect solution to my kids’ frequent requests to eat in the playroom! I love your product and am drooling at the chance to win a blanket and pillow for my clan. Thanks for the chance!

I really like this prize. Sign me up! I have a six-month-old who will love it. My wife and I are definitely clean-house types. We had a nice modern storage unit built in the nursery for keeping toys and supplies hidden. The exersaucer and boucy seats all have a little corner they get tuckerd away in so they’re never underfoot. The Bumbo seat actually qualifies as a piece of decor, so we don’t need to hide that! :)

my biggest tip is that less is best. les furniture means less clutter, which means less mess. as for style, i’ve found that darker colors hide everything. :)

My initial response would be shackling the little ones in a basement dungeon or rec room, but since that’s probably not a very appropriate answer, I will say that you need to stick to your guns from the moment conception begins. If you want a sleek, modern house you must be prepared to deny your friends and relatives the joy of giving your child any brightly colored chunks of battery-powered plastic and licensed character toys and books, allowing only well-designed toys and books and gear into your home. Even then, you will have to be a merciless editor, fastidiously tidying up and hoping your child won’t somehow be the one who only wants to wear a superhero costume or tutu to school. Good luck with that. The rec room idea is easier…

I find that clear plastic containers of various sizes makes for easy cleanup, plus kids can easily see what’s in the containers to grab their favorite toy/arts&crafts, etc. With a backless bookshelf placed slightly away from the wall, longer containers can go on the shelf but still look neat in a row at the front of the shelf. Or if you are lucky enough to have a deeper shelving unit, the unit can be used as a room divider and the bins accessed from either side — great for younger tots (bottom shelves) and older kids (upper shelves). And forget the lids for the younger tots. They usually cannot manage the lids easily.

This fabric sounds like a dream come true..(can I cover my living room in it,PLEASE!) As a firm believer that sippy cups are the most wonderful things on earth, this might rival that!! Would LOVE to have this set for my Pre-K “BIG KID”.

Thanks for this great giveaway! I have cute baskets that have lids around the house that hold toys. I leave them uncovered so toys can go in and out, but when company comes over, throw the covers on and toys are hidden.

With a toddler running around the house and ample crumbs everywhere, my Roomba has been my savior!! It vacuums for me and keeps my floors clean.

  9. Cath Says:

I use a large, sturdy woven picnic basket with a lid as a toy chest. I like it’s rustic charm as it hides the toys. It’s the right height for my son to reach into, and the lid, while wooden, is not heavy enough to hurt his fingers if it falls shut. I also divide his toys into two sets, and rotate them every couple of weeks to keep things interesting and cut down on the volume of toys in circulation.

I love the prints and I love your stuff

  11. Jennifer Says:

Lately my color, pattern and texture selections have tended toward whatever will hide stains best! Of course I try to keep the house as clean as possible, but with a toddler and a very fluffy dog (black and white fur), I’ve found that my textured light gray/dark gray patterned rug has been great at hiding the inevitable stains (and loose fur)!

  12. Chelsea Alexander Says:

I don’t have kids, but I’m currently visiting my sister (who has 3 kids and one on the way) and we’ve turned it into a game. The kids have specific tasks and a time limit and if they get their tasks completed (cleaning up the play-doh or picking up the front room) they get a non-edible treat. Yesterday I let them play a video game for 10 minutes if they got everything cleaned in under 3 minutes. Worked like a charm.

  13. Rebecca Scott Says:

I think my best tip is to buy a microsuede couch. It looks good and you can wipe down the whole thing with a damp cloth to remove stains, marks, etc. Ours is in a rich cinnamon colour. It’s comfy, too. Thanks for this great a contest.

  14. Sarah Says:

It’s the unexpected that makes keeping my kids space “presentable”! That unexpected usually takes the form of spills/PB&J-trail etc. The throver is also a thrunder! It hides (beautifully) the shelves of toy containers and is pulled down for a play area that can take anything!

  15. Rebecca Scott Says:

My suggestion is to get a microsuede couch. You can wipe anything off of it with a damp cloth. (p.s. I thought I wrote this comment yesterday. I hope this isn’t a duplicate… Rebecca)
